New Delhi: Eminent Jain Muni Acharya 108 Vidyasagar Maharaj passed away at Chandragiri Teertha near Dongarghad in Chhattisgarh State early on Sunday morning.
The Jain Muni, who undertook Yamasallekhana Vrata three days ago, breathed his last at 2.30 am on Sunday. He was 77.
Born at Sadalaga town in Belagavi district of Karnataka on Oct.10,1946, Acharya Vidyasagar Maharaj had his primary education at Sadalaga and High School education at Shamanewadi – Bedakihala. After embarking on a pilgrimage to Shravanabelagola along with Deshabhushan Maharaj, he took Munideeksha from Acharya Gnanasagara Maharaj in 1968 at an young age of 22 years. Later, he became an Acharya on Nov. 22.1972, as a 26-year-old youth.
He was well versed in Kannada, Marathi, English, Hindi and Sanskrit languages. He also wrote a book in Hindi titled’ Mooka Maati’.
