City’s Nirmaya team won the Heritage Cup-2024, a State-level cricket tournament for visually impaired women, jointly organised by Nirmaya Foundation, Swachhanda Group and Suraksha Foundation at Maharaja’s College Cricket Grounds in city yesterday.
Nirmaya team defeated Deepa Academy of Bengaluru by a margin of five runs in the final match to emerge victorious. Shalini of Deepa Academy was adjudged the Player of the Match while Kavitha of Nirmaya was declared Player of the Tournament.
Speaking on the occasion, former Indian Blind Team player Shekar Naik said being visually impaired should not hinder the efforts to reach the set goals and advised the players to make use of the opportunities to build a good future. He also remembered the day when India won the world cup under his captaincy.
Dr. Chandrashekar of Aditya Hospital, Nirmaya Foundation Founder R. Rakshitha, President M.R. Gurpreeth, S.P. Prashanth of Swachhanda Group and Anand Raj of Suraksha Foundation were present at the valedictory.
