Curtains fell on the four-day Hockey Mysore Invitation Men’s Tournament – 2024 with DYES Bengaluru emerging champions beating AGORC, Bengaluru 1-0 in the finals held at University of Mysore Hockey Grounds, here yesterday.
The final match witnessed a tough fight between both the teams with none of them giving opportunities for their rivals to score the goals. However, Bipin of DYES Bengaluru was successful in breaking the AGORC’s defence to score the lone goal of the match in the 24th minute. In the third place playoff, Hassan defeated Hockey Mysore 3-0 in the penalty shootout as the match ended in a draw with no team scoring a goal.
Later, MP Pratap Simmha and MLA K. Harishgowda distributed prizes to winners. DYES Bengaluru was awarded a cash prize of Rs. 2 lakh along with a trophy, runner-up AGORC, Bengaluru, received a cash prize of Rs. 1.50 lakh and trophy while Hassan (3rd place) and Mysuru (4th place) were rewarded with Rs. 1 lakh and Rs. 50,000 cash prizes respectively.
Speaking the occasion, MLA K. Harishgowda appreciated the organisers for conducting a State-level Tournament and assured the players about constructing an astro-turf stadium taking the MP into confidence.
He also remembered the days of him practising wrestling in the University of Mysore (UoM) Sports Pavilion.
Arjuna Awardee international hockey player Dr. A.B. Subbaiah, UoM Department of Physical Education (DPE) Director (retd.) Dr. Pulikeshi Y. Shettappanavar, St. Philomena’s College Physical Education Director (retd.) Christopher, Hockey Mysore President K.B. Dilip, Vice-President K.N. Muddaiah, Secretary C.T. Satish and others were present.
