Special Angklung concert at Suttur Mutt on Dec. 26

Mysore/Mysuru: Dr. H.S. Anasuya Kulkarni will be presenting a special Angklung (an Indonesian bamboo instrument) Concert at Suttur Mutt, foot of Chamundi Hill, in city on Dec. 26 at 6 pm, as part of the Mutt’s Monthly Moonlight Music-262 programme.

She will be accompanied by Vid. N.N. Ganesh on violin,  Vid. H.L. Shivashankaraswamy on mridanga and Vid. S. Manjunath on ghata.

Profiles

Dr. Anasuya Kulkarni: Ganakala Bhushana and Karnataka Kalashree awardee, Dr. Anasuya has been awarded Ph.D in Music from Annamalai University. She has been the disciple of Ganakalaratna R.R. Keshavamurthy and Sangeetha Kalanidhi Mysore T. Chowdiah from 1952 to 1964.

She has also learnt Hindustani music from Ustad Mohammad Hussain Sarahang from Afghanistan and Gurus from Indonesia, Uganda, Ethiopia and Bhootan have all contributed to her vast knowledge in music. She has been a Akashvani artiste since 1952. She has taught Indian music at various foreign Universities as part of the Cultural Exchange Programme and is also known to have taught presenting Indian music in western instruments. She has presented papers on music and history at more than 56 platforms.

She is also specialised in Fusion music. She has given many programmes for the cause of charity.

She is the playback singer for the Prahlada character of Subbaiah Naidu’s ‘Bhakta Prahlada’ Kannada movie. She has been documented in Music, HMV, Australian BBC programme. She has been active in various well-known Music Sabhas and has huge following on YouTube.

Vid. N.N. Ganesh, disciple of Vid. H.K. Narasimhamurthy, is a B-High grade artiste of Akashvani. He is well-known in Singapore as a teacher and performing artiste of violin in Singapore Indian Fine Arts Society (SIFAS). He has accompanied many noted musicians.

Vid. H.L. Shivashankaraswamy has accompanied renowned musicians and has also performed Jugalbandi concerts. He has been awarded ‘Best Mridanga Artiste’ title by Karnataka Ganakala Parishat. He has founded Laya Vidya Pratishtana in Mysuru and is famous for his Laya Lahari fusion programme.

Vid. S. Manjunath has learnt ghata and mridanga under Vid. T.V. Bhadrachar and Vid. Tumkur B. Ravishankar for the past two decades. He has provided accompaniment for many CDs. He is currently working as a teacher at JSS High School.
