Mysore/Mysuru: The All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) has granted approval to eight engineering colleges in Karnataka to offer engineering courses through evening education, catering to professionals.
Among these colleges, five are located in Bengaluru while one each can be found in Gadag, Tumakuru and Mysuru (Vidyavardhaka College of Engineering), and they have been authorised to offer selected courses.
In the academic year 2019-20, AICTE discontinued evening engineering courses that were previously offered in 12 colleges across the State.
This time, it is mandatory for evening colleges to be affiliated with colleges recognised by the National Accreditation Board (NBA), which means that Government colleges like UVCE and others have not received approval.
Prof. B. Sadashive Gowda, Principal of Vidyavardhaka Technical University, stated: “Admission to these courses requires candidates to have completed a diploma programme and be actively employed professionals. The courses will be conducted during evenings and weekends, with some subjects available for online instruction.”
A condition set by AICTE is that students seeking admission to these courses must reside within a 50-kilometre radius of the college.
