Mysore/Mysuru: A juvenile Indian Rock Python has been rescued by Snake Shivu at Muneshwaranagar in city last night.

Residents, who spotted the Python, mistook it for a Viper and informed Shivu. He rushed to the spot and confirmed it to be Indian Rock Python aged about three and a half years.

He also informed Assistant Conservator of Forest (ACF) Lakshmikantha, who asked Shivu to rescue the reptile. Shivu said that “Indian Rock Pythons are usually found in Western Ghats area. While in Mysuru, five to six Pythons are rescued in a year, usually during rainy seasons as these snakes are swept away in water from the Western Ghats.”

The snake was released into its habitat in the presence of Range Forest Officer (RFO) Dhanyashree this morning.
