Sir,
Street-lights, especially the LED variety, which were changed from Tubelight, Halogen, Sodium and Mercury vapour bulbs, with much fanfare in previous years, are dying one by one and keeping the city streets dark. Dark streets are open invitations to chain-snatchers and other illegal activities. Complaints of street-lights not working are being ignored by MCC saying that LED bulbs are out of stock, tenders have been issued etc., for the last two years and keeping the people in the dark.
In the meantime, MCC had said that proposal to replace all 80,000 street-lights and 2,300 Ring Road lights to LED were approved by Government and a sum of Rs. 108 crore was also released in 2018. The MCC Commissioner had also claimed that an International Tender, on PPP model, had been called for this purpose. Whatever happened to this project?
MCC was supposed to save the electricity and maintenance charges incurred yearly on these street-lights and repay the Government. Will the present MCC Commissioner Shilpa Nag throw some light on this dark problem?
