- Rural pass percentage – 76.66%, Urban – 70.05%, Mysuru ranks 17th

Bengaluru/Mysuru: The SSLC (Secondary School Leaving Certificate) exam results (2018-19) declared by the Karnataka Secondary Education Examination Board (KSEEB) at Bengaluru this morning, saw a pass percentage of 73.70%, a marginal increase of 1.77 percent over previous year.
Announcing the results, S.R. Umashankar, Principal Secretary, Primary and Secondary Education Department, said though 8,41,666 students had registered to appear for the exam only 8,23,468 of them actually wrote the exam. Out of this, 6,06,896 have passed, he said and added that 1,626 schools across the State have recorded cent percent results.
Girls outsmart boys
Continuing with the trend, this year also girls fared better than the boys. Girl students recorded a pass percentage of 79.59% while boys recorded 68.46%.
Rural areas have fared better with a pass percentage of 76.66% as compared to urban areas which had a pass percentage of 70.05%.
Interestingly, Ramnagara which was ranked 17th last year made significant improvement this year and has come second in ranking. The first place has gone to Hassan which was ranked 7th last year. Udupi which was ranked first last year has come in 5th position this year. While many Districts made significant improvements Yadgiri, North Karnataka, once again came in last at 34th rank.
Mysuru slips in ranking
Mysuru has shown a disappointing performance by slipping in the ranking list. Last year Mysuru had come in at 11th place with a pass percentage of 82.90%, but this year has been ranked 17th with a pass percentage of 80.32%.
In a surprise, Bengaluru Rural has beat both Bengaluru South and Bengaluru North to come up on top. Last year Bengaluru Rural was ranked 14th but this year has made it to the 3rd place.
Mysuru secured 17th position among the districts, slipping from the 11th position last year.
Although Mysuru recorded a good pass percentage of 80.32, it was not enough to push the district to the top of the list, as other districts performed better.
Mandya and Chamarajanagar
districts fared better than Mysuru with Mandya bagging the tenth spot (85.65%) and Chamarajanagar (80.58%) 15th spot, while Kodagu stood at 22nd position in the list, with a pass percentage of 78.81.
Rohan tops in Mysuru
Rohan V. Gangadkar of Ideal Jawa Rotary School in the city has topped the district securing 622 out of 625 (Sanskrit 125, English 100, Kannada 100, Maths-99, Science-100, Social Studies 98).
Rohan is the son of Advocate H.N. Venkatesh of Law Guide fame and S. Manjula, an official of Mysuru ZP, couple residing at First Cross, Uttaradi Mutt Road, Agrahara in the city.
Aspires to be IAS Officer
Speaking to Star of Mysore, an elated Rohan said that he aspires to become an IAS Officer.
Stating that he did not go to tuitions anywhere and he studied only at school and home, Rohan said that dedicated and disciplined studies were key to his success.
He further said that he would opt for PCMB combination in PUC.
Ranking
Hassan district topped the list with of 89.33% pass followed by Ramanagara (second) with 88.49%, Bengaluru Rural 88.34%, Uttara Kannada 88.12% and Udupi 87.97%.
Two girl students — D. Srujana of Anekal in Bengaluru Urban district and Naganjali Nayak of Kumta, Uttar Kannada district, have scored cent percent marks (625/625) in the exam, while 11 students secured 624/625, 19 students 623/625, 39 students 622/625, 43 students 621/625 and 56 students 620/625 across the State.
The exam was held between Mar. 22 and Apr. 4 at 2,847 centres across the State, with 8,23,468 students out of 8,41,666 students, including repeaters appearing for the exam.
