Pub assault case: No bail for Mohammed Nalapad; completes 100 days in jail

May 31, 2018

Bengaluru:  Mohammed Haris Nalapad, son of Shanthinagar MLA N.A. Haris, the main accused in the Feb. 17 brawl at Farzi Café in UB city, will continue to be lodged at Parappana Agrahara prison, as his bail plea was rejected again yesterday afternoon.

Special Public Prosecutor Shyam Sundar had pointed out that the assault which left Vidvat with multiple injuries have been proved in the recent chargesheet filed against Nalapad and his associates. He had also pointed out that the Nalapad gang did not even spare the café employees when they tried to intervene.

Nalapad has now been in the Central Prison for 100 days after he was remanded in judicial custody which began two days after his dramatic surrender at Cubbon Park Police Station on Feb. 19.

“The Court had earlier rejected his bail because of the brutality of the crime and it was convinced of strong possibility of the accused tampering with the evidence and the witness statements if allowed to go out on bail,” said Shyam Sundar. The bail application came up before 62 Additional City Civil and Sessions Judge B. Parameshwara Prasanna who reserved the order for Wednesday after hearing both sides on Tuesday.

The CCB had submitted chargesheet along with CCTV grabs in which Vidvat was seen being attacked with ice bucket and glass bottles. Shyam Sundar also added that the Court had rejected the bail plea earlier on the basis of the merit of the case and also on the manner in which Nalapad had acted despite being the son of an elected leader. It is expected that Nalapad’s legal team would appeal against the order in the HC in coming days.
