State gets first woman Police Chief

Bengaluru: The State Government this afternoon appointed Senior IPS Officer Neelamani N. Raju as the Director General and Inspector General of Police (DG&IGP).

She is the first woman IPS officer to occupy the top Police post in Karnataka.

A 1983-batch officer, Neelamani has served in Central Intelligence agencies. The officer was on Central deputation for 23 years before returning to Karnataka in 2016.

She has served as DGP (Fire&Emergency Services, Home Guards, Civil Defense and SDRF). She will take over from incumbent DG & IGP R.K.Dutta.  

It may be recalled that Neelamani Raju had visited Mysuru to probe the blast that rocked Mysuru Court Complex in the month of August 2016.
