Napoklu: Tension prevailed at Napoklu in Kodagu district after miscreants dumped hooves of a slaughtered bovine at a temple gate yesterday. The decomposed parts were found cloaked in a cloth and was hanging from the gate which triggered tension in the vicinity. The hooves kept in a plastic bag were placed at the entrance arch of Nettumadu Bhagavathi Temple at Kakkabe near Napoklu.
Villagers and leaders of Hindu outfits who gathered at the site staged a protest and urged to arrest the accused.
Yesterday morning, the temple head Pandanda Naresh found a plastic bag which was hung at the temple arch. Soon, the incident went viral and a complaint in this regard was lodged at Napoklu Police Station.
Local community members and activists of Hindu groups took to the streets to express their protest and demanded that the culprits be tracked and brought to justice.
The Hindu outfit leaders, who blocked the road for some time, addressed their followers and described that it as an attempt to disturb the communal harmony and divide the society by miscreants.
Kodagu Zilla Panchayat President B.A. Harish, Members Padiyamanda Murali, N. Kiran, and others were present. Madikeri Dy.SP Sundaraj and other officials, who reached the spot, promised the gathering that the culprits would be traced.
As the news of the incident spread, there were protests in Madikeri, Kushalnagar and Kakkabe as well. Agitators staged a Rasta Roko and submitted a memorandum to the District Administration demanding that the miscreants be arrested and prosecuted at the earliest.
Speakers at rallies said that the heinous act cannot be tolerated as it is directed towards stirring peace and harmony. The act is deliberate and has been carried out with the intention of creating communal tensions during Ganesh Festival and Bakrid. Stern legal action should be initiated against the miscreants, they demanded. Following the incident, Police officials conducted an inspection. The villagers who had gathered at the spot maintained that higher Police officials should visit the spot.
