VTU Students’ Panel call for voluntary bandh of Engineering Colleges tomorrow

August 31, 2017

Mysuru: Students of Engineering Colleges affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), under the banner of All India Democratic Students’ Organisation (AIDSO) and VTU Students’ Struggle Committee, will boycott classes tomorrow to urge the University to solve their problems at the earliest.

As a prelude to the bandh, a bike rally was taken out in city this morning by about 50 students from Kote Anjaneyaswamy Temple. The rally passed through K.R. Circle, D.D. Urs Road, JLB Road, Dasappa Circle, Hunsur Road, Vijayanagar Water Tank, Hebbal, Metagalli and Ring Road to reach NIEIT, where more students joined the rally and again passed through the Ring Road, Bannur Road to reach Vidya Vikas Engineering College, ATME College and Mysore College of Engineering and Management (MYCEM).

Later, the bike rally proceeded via Bannur Road, Mysore Milk Dairy Road, Nazarbad Circle, Vasanth Mahal Road, Hardinge Circle, Dasara Exhibition Road, Gun House Circle, Chamaraja Double Road and concluded at Ramaswamy Circle.

Results delayed

The students alleged that the results of Dec. 2016 exams were delayed by five months with the VTU withholding the results of many students and announcing the same just a few hours before the exams. This uncertainty of the results and severe anomalies in the evaluation process had caused dilemma and anxiety among the students, the rallyists said.

The protestors alleged that Crash Semester System students were forced to write 16-20 exams in two months and sometimes two exams in a day.

Speaking to SOM, the students said they had demanded removal of critical year back system for non-Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) students and supplementary exams for CBCS students and had taken to the streets across the State in this regard, but their pleas had fallen on deaf ears.
