Nandini Milk will become dearer by Rs. 2 in Southern Karnataka from April 1. In the Northern districts, the price goes up by a rupee.
With this increase, Nandini toned milk, earlier priced at Rs. 33 a litre, now goes up to Rs. 35 in areas under the Bengaluru, Mandya, Kolar, Tumakuru, Mysuru, Hassan, Shivamogga and Mother Dairy Unions. In places under the Belagavi, Raichur, Ballari and Dakshina Kannada Unions, the price which was Rs. 34 a litre, is now Rs. 35.
Explaining the rationale behind the price hike, the Karnataka Co-operative Milk Producers Federation said that the State is facing the worst-ever drought in over 4 decades, leading to scarcity of fodder and drinking water.
The price was last hiked in Jan. 2016, when the milk price was increased by Rs. 4 a litre.
