Mysore/Mysuru: Two days after Navarathri celebrations ended with Jumboo Savari on Tuesday, the Annual Chamundeshwari Rathotsava took place atop Chamundi Hill this morning in the presence of thousands of devotees.

Amidst clear skies and bright sunshine, Rathotsava (car festival) took place in the auspicious Vrishchika Lagna (7.50 am-8.20 am), with titular head of the erstwhile Mysore royal family Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar pulling the chariot for some distance.

Puja rituals began as early as 3.30 am with Rudrabhisheka, Panchamrutabhisehka, Sahasranama and Trishakthi Namarchane, following which the idol of the presiding deity was decorated in ‘Simhavahini Alankara’. Later, Pramoda Devi Wadiyar and Yaduveer performed ‘Agra Puja’ and subsequently, the idol of the deity was taken around the temple amid chanting of mantras. Later, the deity, which was adorned with the jewellery brought from the Palace, was placed in the chariot (ratha) and taken in a procession.

Devotees showered ‘Hannu-Javana’ at the Ratha as an offering to Goddess Chamundeshwari.

As the chariot went around the temple, the Police fired several rounds in the air as an honour. All the rituals were held under the guidance of Temple Chief Priest Dr. Shashishekar Dikshit.

Speaking to presspersons, Pramoda Devi Wadiyar said she has prayed the deity for the well-being of all the people.

Yaduveer said he was delighted that the Nada Habba Dasara went on peacefully and in a good manner in accordance with the past practices and traditions. He has prayed the deity for prosperity of the State,  he added.

MLA G.T. Devegowda, his wife Lalitha, Addditional Deputy Commissioner Dr. Shivaraju and other officials were present.

Traditional Teppotsava will take place at Devikere atop the Hill on Oct. 28, marking Krishna Paksha Poornima Day. Teppotsava will take place at 6.30 pm.
