Rathotsava at Chamundi Hill Temple tomorrow

Teppotsava at Devikere on Saturday

Mysore/Mysuru: The Rathotsava and Teppotsava rituals of Goddess Chamundeshwari that are being held every year atop Chamundi Hill after Dasara festivities will be held this year on Oct. 26 (Thursday) and on Oct. 28 (Saturday) respectively.

Rathotsava, also known as ‘Samvatsaarothsava’ will be held tomorrow, the day of Dwadashi, of Ashwija Masa, Shukla Paksha. All the rituals connected with Rathotsava will be performed at the auspicious Vrishchika Lagna from 7.50 am to 8.10 am. Teppotsava of Goddess Chamundi (Pallakki Utsava) will be held on the day of Poornima (Full Moon), of Ashwija Masa, Shukla Paksha on Oct. 28 at 7 pm. The related rituals begin in the morning of 27th and on the evening of 28th. The Utsava Murthi of Goddess Chamundeshwari will be placed on a Teppa (Float) with colourful lights. After going three rounds in Devikere at the hilltop, the deity will be placed in a Golden Pallaki and puja will be performed.

Devikere road to be opened

It may be recalled here that Mysore Royal Family had closed the Devikere road atop the Chamundi Hill, apparently upset over the previous State Government’s decision of not consulting them on the restoration works of Devikere and other development works atop the hill, as the land on which Devikere is located belongs to the Royal Family. A new gate was installed on the road leading to Devikere which was locked and security personnel deployed. A sign-board restricting the entry of the public was also put up.

Speaking to Star of Mysore this morning, the Executive Officer of Sri Chamundeshwari Temple Krishna said that the Royal Family Members including Pramoda Devi Wadiyar have been informed of the Teppotsava by the temple priest and he also had personally discussed the issue with Pramoda Devi and sought her cooperation.

“Pramoda Devi, who has agreed to give permission to hold Teppotsava at Devikere, will also participate in both Rathotsava and Teppotsava along with Yaduveer Wadiyar, Trishikha Wadiyar and other Members of the Royal Family,” said Krishna.
