Mysore/Mysuru: The building of the MCC Zone-1 Office near Agrahara has been demolished on Tuesday and a park will come up in the land where the building stood.
A building to be used as a library was built in 1994 in the place that was meant for park, at Thyagaraja 5th cross coming under MCC Ward No. 51. But the library never opened. Later, the building was extended and the MCC Zone – 1 Office began to function since then. As days passed by, play equipment such as see-saw, swing etc. provided for children in the proposed park started disappearing and the place resembled a deserted field. Though the citizens protested against the stealing of sporting equipment, it was of no use.
As Zone-1 Office was shifted to a new building with all modern facilities at 5th cross on Uttaradi Mutt Road built at a cost of Rs. 3.5 crore, the old building was lying vacant. Now, thanks to the initiative of former Corporator B.V. Manjunath, the old building is demolished and a new park will come up on 30 guntas.
Already iron grill has been installed at a cost of Rs. 40 lakh and an open gym will come up in the place where the old building existed. A beautiful garden with walking path will transform the area and the contractor has been instructed to expedite the project.
Former Corporator B.V. Manjunath has expressed happiness about with the ongoing works of the park and said that the long pending wish of the locals for a park will soon become a reality.
