Former Congress MLA Vasu gets notice for anti-party activities

July 22, 2023

KPCC receives written complaint against Vasu blaming him for working against party’s nominee in Chamaraja Constituency

Mysore/Mysuru: In what appears to be all is not well in the Congress party in Chief Minister Siddharamaiah’s home turf Mysuru, former Congress MLA Vasu has been served a notice from Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee’s (KPCC) Disciplinary Committee for indulging in anti-party activities during the recent Assembly elections.

In a notice dated July 17 issued by the Convenor of KPCC Disciplinary Committee Nivedit Alva of which former Union Minister K. Rehman Khan is the Chairman, it is stated that “KPCC has received a written complaint for refraining from campaigning on behalf of the official candidate of the party in the recent Karnataka Assembly elections-2023 and campaigning against the party.  An explanation must be sent to KPCC Office within seven days of the receipt of notice.”

In the complaint made against Vasu to KPCC, it is succinctly explained that “He (Vasu) was involved in anti-party activities, by working in favour of BJP during the elections. He also spoke ill against kurubas and dalits and also influenced his supporters to work in favour of BJP by luring them with money. As his son V. Kaveesh Gowda had contested the election on BJP ticket (from Chamundeshwari Constituency), he also worked in his favour. Vasu did the same by working against Congress nominee in Chamaraja Constituency too and also against Siddharamaiah (in Varuna). Hence Vasu should be expelled from the party.”

This development in the party is viewed as a first victory to the relentless efforts of CM Siddharamaiah’s loyalists in the party here, who were making all efforts to oust Vasu from the party. Prior to the elections, Vasu had landed himself in trouble for his public statement that ‘D.K. Shivakumar should become the next CM of the State. Following this, Siddharamaiah had succeeded in securing the ticket for his supporter (K. Harishgowda the incumbent MLA) to contest the election. A week ago, former Corporator R. Sunand Kumar, also a Siddharamaiah loyalist, had written to the President of Mysore District City Congress Committee R. Murthy to expel Vasu from the party.

It may be mentioned that, Vasu, who was sulking over missing the ticket to contest election, had even vented his anguish against Siddharamaiah before media persons.
