Five-time Lucky at Narasimharaja Constituency

May 16, 2018

Mysuru: Congress candidate Tanveer Sait recorded his fifth straight win from Narasimharaja Constituency by garnering 62,268 votes thus defeating his nearest rival Sandesh Swamy of BJP who managed to secure 44,141 votes.

Though political observers in the Constituency pointed out that the going could turn tough for Tanveer Sait as the Congress, Janata Dal-Secular (JD-S) and Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) candidates will all be vying for the same Muslim votes and thereby dividing them, Sait proved them wrong by   winning the polls.

In all, the Constituency witnessed a four-cornered contest by Congress, SDPI,  JD(S) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

While Tanveer Sait, who is the son of late Minister Aziz Sait, won by 62,268 votes, BJP’s Sandesh Swamy garnered 44,141 votes, SDPI’s Abdul Majeed secured 33,284 votes and JD(S) candidate Abdul Aziz (Abdullah) secured  14,709 votes.

Narasimharaja has a substantial concentration of Muslim votes and has for long remained a Congress fortress and a bastion of Aziz Sait family.

For the Congress, Aziz Sait’s family has proven beneficial as the party has won most of the elections under the leadership of Aziz Sait. After Aziz Sait’s death, his son Tanveer Sait proved a winning horse  for the party.

The only time Aziz Sait lost in his over four-decade political career was in 1994, when Maruti Rao Pawar of the BJP defeated him.

After Tanveer Sait took over the reins following the demise of his father Aziz Sait,  he won in 2002 by-poll (42,453 votes), 2004 (54,462 votes), 2008 (37,789 votes), 2013 (38,037 votes) and now won the 2018 Assembly polls.

The JD(S) candidate came third and BJP candidate       was fourth.

Congrats Mrs Tanveer Sait, you have proven your hard work at your area. I my opinion you could have had all the votes, since there were few obstracles …… well now you still have the chances to make the corrections for future, You have a very good support. Thank God otherwise in the name of Tourism all the Govt & Tourist buses would have been parked in front of Silk emporium and resturant.
