Vidwan Mattur T. Gopal conferred music award

February 12, 2017

“Tyagaraja and Purandaradasa Keertanas will inspire the people to live a more purposeful and much better life,”  opined Kannada Sahitya Parishat Mysuru President  Dr. Y.D. Rajanna.

He was speaking after inaugurating Sri Tyagaraja and Purandara Aradhana Mahotsava, jointly organised by Vikala Vikasa Samsthe and Mysuru District Sharana Sahitya Parishat in front of Kote Anjaneyaswamy Temple at the North Gate of the Palace yesterday.

Noting that Thyagaraja and Purandara Keertanas will help in bringing down cruelty, audacity and dishonesty in human beings, he said that the Keertanas have played a vital role in shaping good future of many people.

Pointing out that spiritualism was the trump card of Tyagaraja and Purandaradasa, he said that the two great Saints sacrificed everything they had for the welfare of mankind.

Complimenting the organisers for holding such a meaningful programme he called upon the people to teach the Keertanas to children.

Vidwan Mattur T. Gopal, a visually-impaired musician of repute, was conferred special music award, instituted in the name of later Nanjunda Shetty, on the occasion.

Social activist K. Raghuram, University of Mysore (UoM) Assistant Librarian Venkatesh, District Sharana Sahitya Parishat President M. Chandrashekar, Vikala Vikasa Samsthe Trustee S.S. Vaidyanath, UoM Fine Arts faculty Dr. K.T. Udaya Kiran, late Nanjunda Shetty’s son Vasudev, former Mysuru President of Kannada Sahitya Parishat Maddikere Gopal and others were present during the programme.
