Woman drowns in Kapila River

Nanjangud: A woman from Mysuru, who accidentally slipped and fell into Kapila River has drowned. The incident took place near Mahadeva Thata Gadduge at Sangama Kshetra in the taluk on Friday.

The deceased woman is Shakuntala (48), wife of H.N. Nanjappawamy of Kuvempunagar in Mysuru. She was the sister of Nanjangud’s Kamalamma Kalyana Mantapa proprietor Manjunath. Shakuntala, who had come to Sangama Kshetra along with her husband to have the darshan of the deity, was washing her feet in Kapila River when she slipped and fell into the river.

She was swept away and her husband Nanjappaswamy, who saw his wife being swept away jumped into the river to rescue her but in vain. Later, with the help of others, the body of Shakuntala was fished out of the river. Hullahalli Police have registered a case.
