Mysore/Mysuru: Mysuru SP Seema Latkar inaugurated the 3-day University of Mysore (UoM) Inter-Collegiate Sports Meet here yesterday.
Speaking on the occasion, Seema Latkar said that students should give equal importance to sports as much as academics.
Pointing out that taking part in sports helps the students to enhance their physical fitness, she called upon them to take the University to much greater heights in sports and other activities.
UoM Finance Officer Rekha, in her address, said that the sportsman spirit must not end with this tournament but must continue throughout the life.
Noting that sports is vital for maintaining health and physical fitness, she said students must not lose any opportunity for taking part in sports events.
The meet will feature gymnastics, swimming, yoga, karate and weight-lifting contests for men and women and body-building contest for men. The meet concludes on Nov.23.
UoM Department of Physical Education Director Dr. C. Venkatesh, Deputy Director P. Krishnaiah and others were present on the occasion.
