Sir,
How often do we hear this sentence when we ask someone, what his or her daughter or son is studying? The answer in almost all cases would be Engineering.
Today, it looks like colleges are churning out Engineering graduates and with slowing IT jobs and manufacturing industry yet to employ in a big way it may be sort of overkill of Engineers with nowhere to go.
There is a need by our Education Department to promote and educate the mass of young minds to look beyond Engineering. It would be a good idea if the Department of Higher Education can take cue from the Tourism Department to start spreading knowledge about various courses that one can opt for.
Except a few, today’s children seriously lack information regarding the various courses that our curriculum offers. The government must put the digital platform to good use to promote the advantages of the alternate courses available so that some of the bright students who would have otherwise moved to Engineering can think of alternate courses.
