DHO allays fears over side-effects, says they are equipped to treat allergies, if any

 Marking the launch of Anti-Measles and Rubella Vaccination campaign, over 100 nursing students took out an awareness rally this morning in city organised jointly by District Administration, Zilla Panchayat, Department of Health and Family Welfare, Mysore City Corporation and Lions Club International.

The rally was flagged off by Deputy Commissioner D. Randeep at the premises of NPC Hospital (near District Health Office) at Nazarbad. The rally passed through thoroughfares of the extension and culminated at Shantaveri Gopala Gowda Hospital. The rallysits carried placards with informative messages on Measles and Rubella, the need for vaccination and symptoms of the diseases.

The district health office is planning to administer vaccines to 7,95,788 children, and 628 teams have been formed to carry out the task. Each team has a vaccinator, data entry operator, marker and a school teacher who will be the facilitator. Vaccination will be done in all the 3,078 schools.

Speaking on the occasion, Randeep said that the vaccination campaign would go on from today till Feb. 28 covering over 7 lakh children in the age group of 9 months to 15 years in the district. He further said that the campaign would first cover over 3,000 schools and later other places. He added that the campaign was aimed to eradicate Measles and Rubella which were dangerous diseases and immunisation was vital for children.

Mayor M.J. Ravikumar, Deputy Mayor Ratna Lakshman, MCC Commissioner G. Jagadeesha, Health Standing Committee Chairman Mahadevappa, District Health Officer Dr. B. Basavaraj and others were present.
