City swimmer S. Thanya won the gold medal in the 400 mts (Individual Medley) with a timing of 5:12.96 seconds at the BIMSTEC Aquatic Championships 2024 held at S.P. Mukherjee Sports Stadium in New Delhi recently.

She has also won gold medals in 200 mts Breaststroke and 200 mts Individual Medley with a timing of 2:42.94 sec and 2:28.16 seconds respectively.

At 14, Thanya is said to be the first swimmer from Mysuru to have won three gold medals in an international event.

S. Thanya, a Grade 9 student at Sri Sharada Public School, is the daughter of S.P. Shadakshari and Shwetha, residents of J.P. Nagar, Mysuru.

S. Thanya from Mysuru, who represented South Zone in CBSE National Swimming Championship 2023 held at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Swimming Pool, Rajkot, Gujarat, from Jan. 21 to 24, won four Gold Medals and secured Individual Championship in the U-14  Girls category.

The 13-year-old Thanya participated in the following 4 events and secured first place in all the events and Secured Individual Championship by 28 points:

1) 100 M Breaststroke with the timing 1:21:62; 2) 50 M Breaststroke  with the timing 37:95; 3) 100M Butterfly with the timing 1:09:82 and 4) 200 M Medley with the timing 2:37:35

Thanya is trained under Pavan Kumar of Global Sports Association, J.P. Nagar Swimming Pool, Mysuru.

An 8th std. student of Sri Sharada Public School, Mysuru, Thanya is the daughter of S.P. Shadakshari and N. Shwetha.

Mysore/Mysuru: S. Thanya became the first swimmer from Mysuru to get selected in Khelo India Junior Women’s Swimming series-2022 organised by Swimming Federation of India and Sports Authority of India at Ray Aquatic Centre, Bengaluru, on Aug. 20 and 21. Various swimmers from across the country had participated in the contest.

 Thanya cleared Round-1 and has won bronze medal in Karnataka State Senior Aquatic Championship-2022. She is also selected for the second round securing III place in 200 m breast stroke (2:55:19) under 15 years category from Karnataka.

Thanya has also participated in Dolphin Aquatics in

Karnataka Senior Aquatic Championship-2022 organised by Karnataka Swimming Association which was held at Padukone-Dravid Centre for Sports Excellence, Bengaluru, from Aug. 12 to 14.

In the contest, she has won a bronze medal in 4X100m medley (4:41:04).

Thanya is an 8th std. student of Sri Sharada Public School, Mysuru. Daughter of S.P. Shadakshari and N. Shwetha, she is trained under Pavankumar of Global Sports Association, J.P. Nagar                       Swimming Pool, Mysuru.

Thanya becomes first Mysurean to win Gold in the history of South Zone Championship

Mysuru’s S. Thanya, representing Karnataka in the 32nd South Zone Aquatic Championship – 2019 organised by Telangana Swimming Association at the CMC Balayogi Aquatic Complex, Gachibowli, Hyderabad, from Jan. 3 to 5, won Gold Medal in 4×50 mts Medley Relay with a timing of 2:27.13s in the Group IV Girls section.

With this, Thanya became the first Mysurean to win Gold in the history of South Zone Championship. Thanya was part of the gold-winning team that included Bengaluru swimmers Priyanshi Mishra, Dhinidi Desinghu and Monya Kousumi.

S. Thanya is seen with her coach Pavan Kumar of Global Sports Association.

Thanya, a 5th standard student of Sharada Public School, Dattagalli, is the daughter of N. Shwetha (an employee at Somani College) and S.P. Shadakshari (a businessman).

She is trained at J.P. Nagar Swimming Pool, Mysuru, by Pavan Kumar of Global Sports Association.
