A State- level Men’s Hockey Tournament, organised by Hockey Mysore, affiliated to Hockey Karnataka, will be held from Jan. 18 to 21 at The Mysore University Hockey Grounds in city, said Hockey Mysore Treasurer Ponnappa.
Addressing a press meet at Patrakarthara Bhavan here Friday, Ponnappa said that the tournament will be held in League and Knock Out format. A total of 12 teams including Customs, AGORC, MEG Boys, SAI Bengaluru, DICE Bengaluru, South Western Railways, Hockey Ballari, Dharwad, Hassan, Gadag, Belgaum and Mysuru will take part. Continuing, Ponnappa said that four groups comprising three teams in one group has been formed and two teams from each group will be considered for the quarter finals, besides stating that, necessary preparations have been made for the success of the tournament.
The tournament will be inaugurated by former MLA L. Nagendra at 10 am on Jan. 18. University of Mysore Physical Education Department Deputy Director Dr. C. Venkatesh, former Mayor Shivakumar, former Corporator M.U. Subbaiah and Indian Oil Corporation Divisional Marketing Head Sunil Kumar Mishra will be the chief guests. Krishnaraja MLA T.S. Srivatsa will preside.
The winning team will be presented with Rs. 2 lakh cash prize, runners up team will be awarded Rs. 1.50 lakh, third place winning team will receive Rs. 1 lakh and the fourth place winner will be given Rs. 50,000 cash prize.
Hockey Mysore President K.B. Dilip, Secretary C.T. Satish and Member Girish were present at the press meet.
