Sir,
Being an engineer myself, it gives me no pleasure to comment on the work of my fellow engineers in Mysuru City Corporation. But as I go on walk everyday, I cannot close my eyes to the sorry state of neglect of maintenance of twin bridges at the junction of Vishwamanava road and Bogadi road.
The above pictures of the bridges indicate that footpaths on both the bridges are encroached by allowing the cables and pipes to pass at the edges of footpaths by reducing the width for pedestrian walking, defeating the purpose of footpaths.
Moreover, the cables and pipes are surrounded by concrete which are wavy and ugly. Due to lack of maintenance the surface of footpaths are heavily worn out. Besides, they block the flow of rainwater which is not only dangerous for commuters but also compromising the life of the bridge itself.
The ideal approach is to ask the offending organisations to dismantle and take them outside the railings and fix accountability. As all works conveniently suffer from fait accompli syndrome, probably the encroachment will never be removed. The best one can expect is get the ugly concrete housing on both sides are rectified by the offending parties at their cost to look presentable and clear the way for drainage of water.
