Apropos the news item ‘Varnashilpi K.Venkatappa award conferred on Mysuru’s GLN Simha’ (SOM dated Dec.29), I am glad that the Government has, though belatedly, recognised the yeomen service of this octogenarian. 

A look at his credentials, I  was surprised that this genius, all through his life distanced himself from publicity and money he could have grabbed had he turned commercial in his ventures.  Content with a simple village life now at Kalale, a place near Nanjangud, this artist par excellence is  a model for his fellow artists.  May his tribe increase.
