KBG’s Abracadabra titled “Mysuru calling, why are you not going?” published in yesterday’s SOM seemed to ‘instruct’ those in authority to become game-changers to develop tourism in Mysuru. However, I would like to mention that there are two more tourist destinations that need immediate attention.

One is Brindavan Gardens. It is a chaotic situation at the spot where you park the car, after a drive on a bad road. And inside the Gardens there is less of garden and light and the tourists move around like robots eager to get out. Looks  like a run-down garden, if at all it can be called a ‘garden’.

Another place in city, where these days I see white foreigners taking pictures, is the Farmers’ Vegetable Market on M.G. Road (East) near the Mall of Mysore (Radisson Blu Hotel). One should be well immuned to any disease or virus attack to buy vegetables from this place full of dirt and muck, one tourist told me, when I stopped the car to ask him what was of interest for him to videograph the market.

Yesterday I read in newspapers that our DC is keen on making Devaraja Market of tourist interest. But he should know tourist interest (for foreigners) is the M.G. Road Market for sheer slum-like ground with dirt and muck.

Is MCC or the District Administration financially so poor and lacking in a sense of hygiene to  provide the place with proper cement or tile flooring with drainage, overhead roof, toilets etc.?

I learn that the place itself is under dispute and the matter is in Court, so it is left that way. But all the same somebody is collecting fee or hafta from those farmers who use the place. How?

Either the authorities could move the Court with a special application on humanitarian grounds to vacate the stay if any and give final judgement or alternatively find a government land nearby (I am sure it should be available, if there is determination on the part of the bureaucrats and a political will) and shift the market providing all the infrastructure and collect rent from the users — farmers of the market.

This done, the DC can welcome all the tourists (of any colour and country) to this Farmers’ Vegetable Market. Good luck.
