Mysore/Mysuru: Chamaraja  MLA K. Harishgowda inspected the renovation works of heritage K.R. Hospital and  other buildings on Monday.

On the eve of Centenary Year of Mysore Medical College and Research Institute (MMC&RI), the State Government has sanctioned Rs. 84 crore to carry out the renovation works of Medical College, K.R. Hospital Administrative Office building, Out-patient Department (OPD), Eye Hospital, Surgical Ward, Cheluvamba Children Hospital and other buildings totalling 14 buildings, which are in progress. With the works registering about 30 to 40% progress, MLA inspected the works and directed the contractor to complete them at the earliest.

The MLA instructed Public Works Department (PWD) engineers and officials to engage skilled workers and use only the materials supplied for renovation works of these heritage buildings and ensure that the traditional designs are not distorted in any way. The MLA also asked officials to complete the works within the deadline without compromising on the quality to strengthen the structure.  He suggested MMC&RI Dean and Director Dr.K.R. Dakshayini to review the progress of works on a daily basis, paving way for hosting the centenary celebrations.

MLA Harishgowda asked about the allegations against agencies supplying workers on out-source basis, for not paying wages, ESI and PF benefits as per the rules. In her reply, Medical Superintendent of the hospital Dr. H.V. Shobha said that “After assuming charge of office, I have slashed payments to those agencies who have failed to abide by rules to provide statutory facilities to workers. There are no such complaints now.”

During his visit to K.R. Hospital canteen, MLA directed officials to give priority to cleanliness and asked them to be vigilant.

The MLA also instructed the officials to immediately clear the bills of contractors who have completed other works.

Later, Harishgowda inspected the works at Cheluvamba hospital.

Shoddy job irks legislator

During inspection, MLA K. Harishgowda expressed his displeasure about the quality of works undertaken at administrative wing of KR Hospital.

A portion of plaster applied on the wall flaked out in a powdered form, thus angering the MLA who took contractors and engineers of Engineering Division from Health Department to task for the shoddy job.

On observing that some doctors at OPD were discharging their duties amidst dust, reportedly due to shortage of rooms, the MLA asked AEE and the contractor to expedite the works by hiring more labourers.

MMC&RI CEO Kalpashri, Finance Officer Vidya, Cheluvamba Hospital Medical Superintendant Dr. Rajendra Kumar, AEE of Health Depart-ment Engineering Division Doreswamy, PWD Engineers and other staff were present.

Mysore/Mysuru: The problem of private ambulances and goods vehicles parking along the side of the bustling Dhanvantri Road, stretching from Janatha Bazar Medical Store to Sayyaji Rao Road and from the Sayyaji Rao Road-Dhanvantri Road junction to the Government Ayurveda College Circle, is once again in the spotlight.

This issue not only exacerbates existing parking challenges in the heart of Mysuru city but also contributes to a cluttered appearance around K.R. and Cheluvamba Hospitals.

The persistent practice of parking on busy roads is causing numerous issues and inconveniences for both motorists and pedestrians. Specifically, the stretch from the Janatha Bazar Medical Store to Sayyaji Rao Road and the Sayyaji Rao Road-Dhanvantri Road junction to the Government Ayurveda College Circle is designated for parking two-wheelers and four-wheelers. Unfortunately, this space is consistently occupied by private ambulances and goods vehicles.

Despite the potential to accommodate over 20 to 30 cars from the Janatha Bazar Medical Store to Sayyaji Rao Road and more than 50 cars from the Sayyaji Rao Road-Dhanvantri Road junction to the Government Ayurveda College Circle, the available space is consistently scarce.

Over 20 private ambulances, stationed throughout the day waiting for the call to shift patients and many goods vehicles delivering goods to the banana mandi and other areas of the Devaraja Market, occupy these areas — many times in a haphazard manner — from morning until evening.

This leaves minimal room for other designated vehicles, hindering their ability to park in the allocated spaces.

These parked vehicles are also creating safety hazards for both drivers and pedestrians. Reduced visibility, especially at the Sayyaji Rao Road-Dhanvantri Road intersection is increasing the risk of accidents. Emergency vehicles are also facing difficulties navigating through these congested roads.

Earlier, these private ambulances used to be parked inside the mortuary compound of the Mysore Medical College and Research Institute (MMC&RI). However, as they created a ruckus there with noise and irregular parking, the MMC&RI authorities denied them entry and closed the parking area, forcing these ambulance drivers to park by the side of the K.R. Hospital.

Policemen will be posted: Traffic ACP

When private ambulances and goods vehicles occupy public parking spaces, especially in busy areas where the parking is meant for cars and two-wheelers, it limits the availability of parking for those who need it. “This scarcity is resulting in increased competition for parking spaces and frustration among drivers searching for suitable spots,” said Traffic ACP Parashuramappa.

Speaking to Star of Mysore this morning, he said that he was aware of the problem and would initiate action. “We will visit the spot to examine the issue in detail. In fact, after the goods are delivered to the Devaraja Market, the goods autos must leave the place instead of parking there, obstructing space. Likewise, private ambulances cannot be parked all day long here in a prime parking spot,” he said.

If need be, a Police Constable will be posted to regulate parking making space for designated vehicles to park and a ‘no parking’ board will be erected at both places, the ACP added.

Deceased’s father urges Additional SP to initiate legal action against Biligere Sub-Inspector and staff

Mysore/Mysuru: A 22-year-old youth, fearing Police action, poured petrol and set himself on fire at Nagarle village in Nanjangud taluk on Nov. 12 night. Though he was rescued and admitted to K.R. Hospital, the youth succumbed to burn injuries at the hospital.

The deceased youth has been identified as Kiran Kumar, son of Raju of Nagarle village.

Kiran, who set himself ablaze, began to scream and his father, brother and villagers, who heard the screams, rushed to his help, rescued him and rushed to the Taluk Public Health Centre (PHC) in Nanjangud and was later shifted to K.R. Hospital in Mysuru where he succumbed to burns.

On Sunday afternoon, Kiran had a fight with some youths from Saragur village and a complaint was lodged against Kiran and his friends at Biligere Police Station, following which Biligere Police summoned Kiran to the Police Station for questioning.

It is learnt that Kiran, who came out of the Police Station to answer nature’s call, came straight to Nagarle village late night where he created ruckus in front of a house, poured petrol on him and set himself ablaze in an attempt to end life.

Meanwhile, a resident of the house, who has lodged a complaint at Biligere Police Station has stated in the complaint that Kiran, who created ruckus in front of his house, poured petrol on himself and set himself on fire.

It is learnt that Kiran had served jail sentence in an attempt to murder case last year. After coming out of jail, Kiran used to do small works here and there and used to lead his life.

Meanwhile, Kiran’s father Raju, alleging that his son had committed suicide following assault from Biligere Police, has lodged a complaint with Additional SP Nandini.

Raju has stated that when he was taking his son Kiran to the hospital on Sunday night, he (Kiran) told him that the Police assaulted him in the Police Station and he had escaped from them. Fearing that the Police would assault him again if they catch him, he set  himself on fire.

Raju has urged the Additional SP to initiate legal action against Biligere Sub-Inspector and staff.
